Preparing For Your Vacation – Home Security Tips
PostedPlanning a vacation this summer?
While we look forward to stress-free vacations, it can be hard if you are worried about the home you left behind. Here are some home security tips to help you have a peaceful, relaxing vacation.
- Tell a trusted friend or family member you’ll be away – With social media, it’s easy to let people know how excited you are about your next trip. Posting on the internet that you’ll be away is a mistake. This makes your home a prime target for robbery. The same goes for your answering machine and voicemail messages. Only notify those who absolutely need to know.
- Stop the mail and newspaper service – A pile of newspapers in your driveway is a sure sign you are away. Give yourself a couple days leeway in case there are any problems. You can do the same with your mail. This can be done online, and then be picked up at the post office when you return.
- Place lights on timers – Outdoor porch lights can be set to come on at night to fend off any intruders. Having your inside lights on timers is a good idea as well.
- Activate your alarm system- If you don’t have one, you should get one. Some systems have cell phone back-up in case it goes down. You can also get a break on your homeowner insurance. This will be sure to help you relax while you’re away.
These are just a few precautions you should take. For more tips visit Vacation Survival Guide. Enjoy your summer vacation!
